“Initial attack and rescue attempts captured on HD quality video using a Contour Helemt Cam on the helmet of a Rescue Company Officer. Rescue was returning from another structure fire when they were dispatched to an apartment fire. What appeared as a routine fire changed when crews arrived on scene and excited family and neighbors reported as many as 5 people trapped. The footage is raw and unedited.”{

Meridian Fire Department Structure Fire Review

Structure Fire Review, for training purposes. Fire was small and originated in the kitchen. Included in the video are maps, video of the fire, radio traffic, apparatus placement pictures, and interior fire damage pictures. It is our goal to start creating a library reviewing fires with pictures, video, radio traffic audio, and comment on interior conditions from the crews. This video leads well to a reading smoke scenario in the fact that we have comment from the Captain on the back up lined describing the interior conditions as light to moderate heat with smoke banked to two feet off the floor. Video of crews opening the front door shows smoke conditions matching what the captain described inside. Brown, not black smoke, slow moving from the door, not pushing.

Coordinated Ventilation

Take a look at these two videos for a great example of coordinated ventilation. The outside vent (OV) firefighter on the fire escape waits until the line is putting water on the fire to take the windows. Doing so helps the engine make the advance into the fire area a little easier. Waiting until the line is ready will ensure that you do not prematurely feed the fire additional oxygen and possibly trap firefighters searching ahead of the line.

Erbes fire ventilation

I really like this video as a discussion generator. I like the movement across the roof walking the peaks and edges as the stronger parts of the roof. For a department without many tile or clay roofs this was a great example of the work needed to clear the tiles prior to opening the roof. Finally on the second cut you watch as they take full tiles out of the way vs breaking them with the tool. Seems like this would be both a a safer and more efficient method then just breaking the rest up creating more unstable footing.

A couple of my thoughts would also go with coordinating with command and ground crews making sure they are not under the area being ventilated and the potential for falling tiles. All in All great video!
